Christian County was created in 1796 as Kentucky's nineteenth county and named for Colonel William Christian. Hopkinsville is its county seat. The courthouse burned in 1864. The Circuit Court is the highest court of civil and criminal jurisdiction within Christian County, and serves as the appellate court for many cases arising from lower courts.
